The stone now bears the date 1760. However, an archive photo taken at the original Markt 5 location shows the year 1766, but the final 6 is hanging loose.
This figure was apparently lost when the stone was extracted and stored somewhere. During the restoration and reinstallation in 1952 of IN THE LAUREL TREE at Markt 60, one simply guessed wrong.
The laurel is the symbol of victory, especially in the Greco-Roman world, because it is always green. Hence, it also symbolises eternity and longevity, as well as chastity.
The laurel is an attribute of the gods Apollo (music and poetry), Dionysius (wine), Juno and Diana (hunting).
