IN THE LITTLE CHURCH 1740, 8 Maastrichter Brugstraat, keeps alive the memory of the chapel of St. Evergisius which used to be there. This saint, who is supposed to have been a pupil of St. Servatius, was archbishop of Cologne, but was murdered and buried in Tongeren. His bones were brought to Cologne in the 10th century, after which he was venerated as a martyr in our area. The district chapel fell into disrepair in the 17th century and was finally demolished to make way for "the little church" and subsequently "de Coninginne van Vranckrijk" and "de Koning van Frankrijk".
