At Rechtstraat 94 the year 17 - 58 on the two separate year stones does not correspond with that on the gable stone IN THE THREE LIONS ANNO 1731.
This stone, therefore, is from elsewhere: Kleine Gracht 36. The fact that it has been placed here is probably due to the house name "the three lions" being a familiar one in Rechtstraat, but had to be looked for across the street at no. 59. That house also changed its name after a renovation in 1733 and was then called "the money box".

The use of three lions has its origin in heraldry and the inclusion of lions, preferably three, on noble and civil coats of arms had become fashionable.
These could be walking lions or, as in this case, rampant lions, also known as climbing lions.
