Replica

To start with the 'bad' news, this is not the original stone, but a modern replica, and it is not originally from Lantaarnstraat either but from Capucijnenstraat 15, where the house had to make way for the later fire station.

Yet there is some good news: the original stone from 1737 has been preserved, although a part of it has disappeared, and it is now in the external depot of the Bonnefanten museum.

Although the original stone is no longer complete and the chronogram on it is no longer entirely legible, it was nevertheless possible to reconstruct it completely and to reproduce it on the replica:

i.e. Under the sign of the cross, (this house) is erected safely from the foundation (1737).

Misinterpretation

It is not known why at Lantaarnstraat a replica was chosen instead of the original stone, but the mistake was made to link the inscription IN THE GREEN CROSS 1730, which was also in the depot and which was relocated here, to the stone from Capucijnenstraat. The green cross - without an image - comes from Achter het Vleeshuis 25.
