In 1989 the Gable stone IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN still stood in the back wall of the then demolished Abtstraat 15, in the building that was known as the Third Order building or the Kleine Comedie (=small comedy theatre). How the Gable stone got there is unknown, because it was Tongersestraat 60 where baker Marcus van Arcken in 1708 built a new house with that name. According to several publications the year must have been written on the stone. The year 1608 was added erroneously during the replacement.
An archive photo shows that the name IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN was also displayed in the upper light of the door on Tongersestraat.
Karl Marx in the Kingdom of Heaven.
On the facade of Bouillonstraat 8-10 - the former Court of Slijpe - is a commemorative plaque of Karl Marx.
Karl Marx 1818 - 1883
Revolutionary and author of 'Das Kapital' stayed here with his sister Sophia 19 March - 7 April 1865
The visit in 1865 mentioned on the plaque is correct, but what is certainly not correct is that Marx was staying at Bouillonstraat, because sister Sophie had already left there after the death of her husband and was living at Markt no. 1 in 1865.
And in 1875 the Limburger Courier could still report: The well-known head of the International Socialist Bureau, Mr Karl Marx, has been in town for a few days. And then his sister lived at Tongersestraat 60.
In any case, the commemorative plaque of the Bouillonstraat hangs on the wrong facade and would therefore be better placed in the kingdom of Heaven.
