The origin of the gable stone 'In the little black lamb' cannot be ascertained. For example, it cannot be determined whether the gable stone was part of another existing facade in Maastricht, or was originally designed for this building. Research in land registers has not yielded any results. What can be stated is that the gable stone dates from the end of the 18th century.
What can also be said with certainty is that in the 19th century this building housed a bakery by the name of 'Het zwart schaap' (the black sheep). Presumably with this in mind, the Gable stone was incorporated into the facade of the building at the beginning of the 20th century. This facade dates from 1902. This Gable stone was drawn on the construction drawings for the permit application for the current facade. This application was submitted to the Mayor and Aldermen in that year.
The listed building itself dates back to 1711 and has undergone several transformations over the past three centuries.
