Originally, the most striking feature of this house must have been its height, which made it easy for everyone to recognise.
For the same reason it is not surprising that there were several "hoeghuysen" (high houses). It is likely that the name was used in the vernacular and that the 'official' naming only followed afterwards.
Of course, there were also houses that stood out for another reason, namely by their colour.
