It takes some time to find the house that used to be called "het wit cruys" (the white cross) at Witmakersstraat.
We think that this refers to house no. 23 and that the cross above the door should be seen as a representation of the house name, despite its different shape and application.
The decoration above the window resembles a kind of mill. It is probably a bit far-fetched, but there is a possible connection between this house and the demolished Duke's Mill, which was located next to and behind this house.
