In the 16th century relics were no longer displayed at churches but were carried around in processions in Maastricht. The first procession with the statue of Mary Star of the Sea took place on Easter Monday 1532. Exactly one century later the city was conquered by Frederik Hendrik and from that time on public religious expressions were no longer allowed. From then on catholics walked a fixed route through the city on their own. That route became the 'bidweg' - prayer route - and it initially also passed this location here.

In the period 1946-1948 the committee "Devotion along the Road" placed several statues, reliefs and plaques along the prayer route on the occasion of the International Mother Mary Congress, which was held in Maastricht in 1947. You will see some examples along this route. This is a statue of Mary, Star of the Sea, Queen of Peace, designed by Jean Sondeijker in 1947.
