At Markt 64, besides seeing the Moor that he described as "bust of a Moor whose head is covered with a turban", De Stuers saw an inscription: IN THE MOOR 1784, which has got lost.
The fact that in the "gicht' names (register of purchase and sales) besides the "moriaan" (Moor) also the "kleine moriaan" (little Moor) is mentioned, may be due to a possible house division.
However, it is more likely that this was due to the proximity of de "grote moriaan" (big Moor) at the part of the Markt square behind the Town Hall.

It is remarkable that the Moor was seen more often on gable stones, even nation wide. And yet the majority of people never had actually seen a Moor or any other coloured person

It must have been the oriental connection, which was attributed to the Moor and which was surrounded by the mysteriousness of products new to our Western society, such as spices and medicines.
