Although the cold Netherlands is not a country for orange trees, we do know their round fruits that obviously refer to an orange tree. This house is also known by that name in the rcords.
The name was used as a tribute to the Princes of Orange who, as stadtholders in the 18th century, played a role in the country's defence.

Support for the sake of Orange can be found in more places in Maastricht: the orange tree at Sporenstraat and the apples of Orange at Minckelersstraat.
