Like most noble families, the noblemen of East - a lineage of gentleman farmers at castle Oost near Eijsden - owned a refuge or gate house in a nearby town. For the Holsit family, this was the Poort van Oost (=Gate of East) in Maastricht. There are several aldermen and bailiffs in Maastricht and its surroundings in the Holsit family. In the 17th century the Poort van Oost was owned by the Van Berghe-Trips family, who belonged to the noble citizens of Maastricht living outside the town gate. It is not clear whether they were also connected with castle Oost.

This is a strange year notation. The explanation is:

That is correct. Put some letters together:

  = M

 = D
Then you can just read:

and this gives

M = 1000
D = 500
C = 100
V= 5
I = 1
the year 1707

then read that as X=10
