The rose is carved into the triangular lintel above the beautiful doorway of Kleine Looiersstraat 10. The Roosen family of tanners is said to have lived here in the 17th century.
The fact that the choice of a house's name was usually based on "just act normal, you're already acting like crazy enough", has resulted in the most mundane subjects being depicted on Gable stone , even in multiples.
For example, there were at least seven houses in Maastricht that bore the name 'the rose', probably more, but those six have as proof a gable stone with a rose on the facade.
You might say that, as an identity mark, it is not exactly unique and that it is not very convenient to refer to your house by such a frequently used name. However, because the street name and neighbouring houses were usually also mentioned, mistakes were kept to a minimum.
