The newly built houses of Hoogbrugstraat 33-35 of around 1900 were homes for employees of the ceramics factory the Societé Ceramique, located between Heugemerweg and the river Meuse on a site of about 24 hectares.
Now a modern neighbourhood, the Ceramique, it takes its name from the former ceramics factory. The houses at Hoogbrugstraat were each decorated with three tableaus, the white/blue and sepia tiles of which were made by the plate painter Henri Breetveld, who was employed by the Societé Ceramique at the time (1902-1906).

The subjects are copies of existing paintings by various artists whose names are neatly listed on each tableau. Executed in blue and white:
Cows after Hendrikus van de Sande Bakhuyzen
Winter after Louis Apol
Windmill after Willem Roelofs.

Executed in sepia and white:
Cows after Jan Vrolijk
Winter after Louis Apol
Ducks after Constant Artz
